Another ‘White Glove’ Auction!

By: Dara Vandor

our Recent Fine Wine Auction ACHIEVES a Perfect score

We are very proud to announce that our Spring Fine Wine auction, offered online May 25 – June 2, was a ‘White Glove’ Sale with 100% of the lots offered sold!

A “white glove auction” is a term widely used in the auction industry referring to the rare occurrence when all the lots in an auction are sold. It may derive from the white gloves traditionally worn to handle artwork or from the phrase “white glove treatment.”

Whatever its origin, it is always an honour when an auction achieves this success and we are extraordinarily grateful to our valued consignors and buyers. In addition, Our Fine Spirits auction also received top marks, performing exceedingly well with a sell-through rate of 93%!

Fine WINE auction HIGHLIGHTS

It is interesting to note that the three top lots in the Fine Wine auction were from Domaine Armand Rousseau acknowledging that Burgundy can easily keep pace with Bordeaux in the higher end of the market. Those three lots were:

*Lot 214: DOMAINE ARMAND ROUSSEAU GEVREY-CHAMBERTIN CLOS ST-JACQUES 2017 (OWC), 6 bottles, which sold for $7,320 (including the Buyer’s Premium)

*Lot 215: DOMAINE ARMAND ROUSSEAU CHAMBERTIN 2017, 3 bottles, which sold for $8,400 (including the Buyer’s Premium)

*Lot 216: DOMAINE ARMAND ROUSSEAU CHAMBERTIN CLOS DE BÈZE 2017, 3 bottles, which sold for $7,200 (including the Buyer’s Premium)

FINE SPIRITS AUCTION Highlights

In the Fine Spirits auction, two Canadian rye whiskies soared into the top three lots of the auction:

Lot 143, a 25 oz bottle of Seagram’s Crown Royal Rare Old Canadian Whisky sold for $4,200 (including the Buyer’s Premium), holding pace with;

Lot 128, a 750 ml bottle of cult favourite Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, 23 Years, also selling for $4,200 (including the Buyer’s Premium).

Completing the top three lots was lot 142, another 25 oz bottle of Seagram’s Crown Royal Rare Old Canadian Whisky, selling for $3,900 (including the Buyer’s Premium).

POSITIVE market iNDICATORS

In addition to the 100% sell-through rate it is very affirming that over 46% of the lots sold over their high estimate. We were also delighted to welcome many new bidders—nearly a quarter of the bidders were new to Waddington’s Fine Wine and Fine Spirits auctions.
