Note:
Originating in the 11th century, the art of the Lopburi period is characterised by distinct stylistic features that bear strong influence of Khmer art. In depictions of Buddha, the head typically extends into a cone-like shape, with hair in the form of tiered lotus petals. Both the eyebrows and earlobes are prominent features, and the full lips are often depicted with an additional outline, bearing a subtle smile. A similar example was sold at Christie’s New York, December 11-12, 2013, lot 453. Also see Victoria and Albert Museum, London, museum no. IM 62-1927
