Lot 143
MANNUMI SHAQU (1917-2000)
Additional Images
Provenance:
Acquired while working in an Air Rescue Squadron at Goose Bay, Labrador U.S. air base in the early 1960’s,
By descent to present owner, New Zealand.
Note:
One of the major artists from Cape Dorset in the early days, Mannumi was friends with Osuitok and they often carved together. You can certainly see their stylistic similarities when comparing this work with Osuitok’s, such as lot 95 from Waddington’s fall 2005 auction catalogue.
