BEAU DICK (1955-2017)

Beau Dick was born in the small village of Kwakwaka’wakw, north of Vancouver Island, BC. He was heavily influenced by Northwest Coast artistry since a young age by both his father and grandfather. Dick is described as “a name to be reckoned within art circles”. He is celebrated for bringing Kwakwaka’wakw traditions into the modern era, as well bringing social awareness through his art, having been heavily involved with Idle No More and Reconciliation Canada.
Dick has works exhibited at the National Gallery of Canada, the McMichael Art Collection and the Canadian Museum of History, and has had works featured in a number of international exhibits, introducing his art to a more contemporary audience.
