Note:
This massive carving speaks to the stark and straightforward intensity of Kavik’s work. Norman Zepp points to the isolated nature of Kavik’s sculptures “singular though they may be, [they] are united by their vitality and directness. Whatever the image... his works do not deal with the specific, they just exist.” Stanley Zazelenchuk explains, “Much of the contemporary Inuit-made art falls into the category of a tabloid depicting a moment in time...Yet in Kavik’s works I sense, not the capturing of a fleeting moment, but a timelessness, an immortality.”
