Lot 65
EFA PRUDENCE HEWARD
Note:
In 1933, twenty-eight artists from across Canada came together to form the Canadian Group of Painters. Lawren Harris was elected president and Prudence Heward was elected as vice-president, along with A.Y. Jackson. Heward was the only woman on the executive and represented the Montreal painters on juries and hanging committees. All the Beaver Hall women (except Emily Coonan) contributed to the CGP show at the Art Gallery of Toronto in November, 1933. Heward was on the selection committee with Lawren Harris and Will Ogilvie.
Excerpts from a small notebook written by A.Y. Jackson about Heward and other members of the Beaver Hall group can be made available to the purchaser of this lot.
