Literature:
Literature: Margaret Gray, Margaret Rand and Lois Steen, A.J Casson, Agincourt, Ontario, 1976, page 49.
Note:
“Edge of the Woods” was painted during a period which Casson named his “abstract period”. More simplified than previous works, “Edge of the Woods” depicts an untextured forest defined by the use of various shades of green contrasted by the brighter tones of yellow and orange. Gray, Rand and Steen wrote: “...He uses oils almost like watercolours, very thinly. Far from wanting texture now, his flattened planes and two-dimensional effects are achieved with thin applications of pure colour”.
