Note:
Nicholas Alden Brooks was a New York City artist who specialized in painting trompe l’oeil representations of paper currency. 'Still Life with Books' was painted in New York in 1890 with the same attention to detail as his trompe l’oeil depictions of American currency. Brooks also exhibited landscapes at the Brooklyn Art Association beginning in 1876.
